Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who was known to solve the hardest mysteries.
In modern usage, Sherlock Holmes can, also, be described to people who want to look into a mystery. In 1988, Loren Smith called Dirk Pitt, "Sherlock Holmes", when he wanted to find out about the airplane wreckage in Smith's cabin. [1]
